"Back in '82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile"
-Uncle Rico
Recently, Jackyl and I have visited "The Shop" that used to be the center of the family buiness, Woods of Wisdom. The Shop is a former chicken coop/goat area in Grandaddy's barn that was re-purposed for wood working. Band say, belt sander, drill press, router, work table, desk etc. I have many memories of working there with dad making parts for chalkboards.
While poking around, I found a stack of these Woods of Wisdom catalogs. Its dated 1982. When Dad had the store on State Street, and when he'd go to the various gift/craft shows around the country, he'd take orders for these items and them make/ship them afterwards.
I think this Woods of Wisdom era deserves a more thorough treatment including Mom and Dads memories etc, but I thought this would be a fun look at the way things were. :)
I present the official 1982 Woods of Wisdom Catalog:

I had forgotten all that stuff. Had a lot of products in those days. But, hey, it bought the groceries from '80 to '89. Was able to quit after I went back to BYU in '85 and got the accounting degree on top of the bus. mgt. degree in '86, then passed the CPA exam in '89. Funny how the equipment patiently sits and waits for you to come along and use it again.
OMG, I remember so many of these things, and this was when I was barely cognizant. What a treasure to find! I even remember spraying chalkboards in the garage. I didn't even know Dad had an actual store, or that he did this business for 10 whole years, my word.
Make sure to show these to mom if you haven't yet. She got upset and slightly embarrassed when I told her you had found these, but I think deep down she loves to see these kinds of things. Are you and Jack doing any wood projects?
Seriously, I happen to want all of the kid stuff. Those standup puzzles? The numbers on the shelves? Forgetaboudit! Seriously, do you think I could still order them? But the other stuff I remember quite well. No cat chalkboards, I see.
